Freaky Me Golfball Throat
I was thinking I may get a surf today but waking up this morning my throat felt a bit strange, looking in the mirror I was confronted with a freak show! My throat has 2 massive golfball like bulges sticking out of it. I thought I'd been feeling pretty strange lately but I'd put that down to stress. - - I've had some tricky issues with my work, general money worries with our overall house income about to massively drop, I'd had a call from some debt collectors about a debt my brother had ran up in my name! My Grandad has suddenly started dying, my mum has now cancelled coming to help us with our immanent babies arrival due to being with her dying dad, and there is the small matter of my wife having a Caesarian Section tomorrow.
So my question.... Is my throat thing (the docter doesn't know what it is and I need a blood test) a result of stress or have I been feeling a bit more stressed lately because I was obviously about to come down with this wierd illness?
It makes the whole K thing seem rather insignifficant. I still have idiots sending me anonymous threatening emails. Think they need to get a life!
Enjoying reading your blog, so much so I have taken to Boscombe's (ahem) wave(s)..
ReplyDeleteslightly concerned though as the various surf spot guides mention nothing about swallowing golf balls as a potential hazard of surfing in Bournemouth; must try and keep my mouth clothes.
good luck with the baby and hope your lot improves soon
Im really speechless, checked MSW for a surf report and saw your REPORT? on there, although its anything but a SURF REPORT, Just loads of personal details which baffle me? with the greatest respect who do you think wants to read this? why would you want anyone to read this? and as for a surf report you have just copied and pasted MSW's details.
ReplyDeleteThere is already 3 other surf reports (SORTED, SURF STEPS ETC) on the MSW page already so i really don't understand why they have added a blog to it? to start putting K Bay up when it works is crazy, I personally did not see it up the other day but hear through the Bournemouth grapevine it caused quite a lot of debate/anger at the time. I really do hope you feel better soon and sort out all your personal troubles but as surf reports go leave it to the guys that are there already, (too many) and keep that special (K) place a little less crowded than it already is, if people don't know its on.... great, it take years to suss it out properly as you have mentioned yourself so why do the work for them? i don't understand why a true "desperately frustrated Surfer" (in your words) would want to make the surf busier and make himself unpopular just to promote/publish his own blog???
I really hope you post a reply as would love to hear your view on what i have said, a non aggressive opinion from another desperately frustrated surfer, Thanks for now James
Hi James, thanks for your comment and I'll take your points on board.
ReplyDeleteFirstly regarding the reports on MSW I've been regularly putting proper surf reports up mainly in response to other reporters who seem to be giving misleading reports saying there is a 2ft wave when in my opinion it is a lot less than that and un-surfable and trust me I surf the most pitiful waves at times!
Yes I admit today's report was a bit gratuitous but I was also using it to let other surfer friends who I know read the reports why I was out of action and why I hadn't called them. But in the main I have been putting up real reports which people have liked.
The now infamous report I put up on the Bournemouth MSW regarding "K" was actually a bit of a mistake which I wont do again and I admit it was more of a 'brag' than a report, also it was very ambiguous and has been massively (via Chinese whispers) blown out of proportion. The report was actually put up at 4pm in the afternoon (so if somebody read it minutes after I published it they might have made it for a last light session. And the report went something like "Flat at Bournemouth but 2ft somewhere else on the south coast".... Not exactly drawing a map!
But yes I shouldn't have done it.
The Blog started out as a bit of a hobby so I could think and talk about my surfs a bit more. It was meant to be a bit of harmless fun and I have had lots of people say they have enjoyed reading it. The reports were like an extension and were a kinda reaction to some of the rubbish reports published on MSW.
I am still desperately frustrated even more so now! Hopefully I can surf with you soon..
And just a word of warning there might be another slightly gratuitous report tomorrow which I have already planned in my head it will be my last.. And Sorry!
Hope you get better and best wishes for the new arrival...
ReplyDeleteLoving your honest and open blogging style.
Ben - be safe in the knowledge that there are people with completely opposing views to the parochial attitudes voiced by one of your patrons. The information you gave about "the jewel in the crown" has been published for years for anyone to find. My guess is Anonymous/James read about it in the ThreeSixty Bodyboard Manual like all the rest of us growing up in the area...
ReplyDeleteAs for the "Bournemouth grapevine"...do me a favour, some people could do with remembering that although this is a small provincial seaside town they can get over their small provincial attitudes.
I completely agree that other Bournemouth area surf reports are generally somewhat "far fetched" to say the least. Your account is a much more honest report.
Keep up the good work - don't be chastened by the philistines!
